A firsthand look at one of the UK’s biggest gaming events

DreamHack Birmingham brought together gamers, fans, and communities from across the UK for a weekend of competition, creativity, and connection.
As part of our continued efforts to engage with gaming communities around the world, we had the opportunity to experience the event firsthand and see the impact of gaming culture at a global level.
A Firsthand Experience
I didn’t know what to expect heading into DreamHack Birmingham.
We had a two-hour drive from Southampton to the NEC, and as we arrived, it was immediately clear this was something different. Crowds of people in cosplay, groups heading in together, and an energy you could feel before even walking through the doors.
Once I got inside and picked up my pass, I was honestly blown away. There were so many stands, so many games, custom PC builds, and experiences happening all at once.
One of the highlights was getting on racing simulators worth over 40K and being thrown around corners. I watched the F1 sim racing championships and then jumped straight in to try it myself.

There were Halo championships, and of course the CDL Major. The grand final between FaZe and OpTic was unreal. The crowd was electric.
People were standing, screaming, and completely locked in.
Even the atmosphere outside of the competition stood out. It felt like everyone was there for the same reason.
“I’ve never walked away from something and wanted to be part of it so badly. The energy, the competition, and the community were unreal.”
By the time I left, I already knew I’d be going back next year. The UK has been lacking gaming conventions like this, and DreamHack delivered. There was so much to see, so much to do, and it left me wanting to dive deeper into everything I experienced.
I got home, loaded up Call of Duty immediately, and even started looking into racing simulators.
Experiences like DreamHack are exactly why Good Game Family exists.
Gaming is more than just playing. It’s connection, community, competition, and inspiration.
From local events to global stages, we’re focused on building spaces where players and communities can come together, experience moments like this, and grow from them.
